St Kitts Holiday Accommodation in Filey, North Yorkshire
St Kitts, Filey Beach, North Yorkshire
oh I do like to be beside the seaside...

First time in Filey? There's more going on than you think!

Filey is a traditional seaside resort which has retained its attraction for the family by limiting the development of amusement arcades, although there is still an opportunity to do a bit of gambling!

The main attraction of Filey is its huge sandy beach with lots of room for cricket matches, sand castle building and all those traditional English pastimes. A walk along the Brigg to explore the rock pools is a must for young and old alike. The cliffs along the top of the Brigg offer amazing views out to sea and on a clear day up the coast to Scarborough.

Filey has plenty to offer bird watchers and nature lovers with easy access to Bempton Cliffs, Flamborough Head and the nature reserve at Filey Dams.

The town centre offers a good selection of local shops and restaurants, including award winning fish and chip shops selling locally caught fish. Freshly caught lobster and crabs are on sale on the cobble landing where you can see the ‘cobbles’ being launched from the beach. A visit to the Lifeboat station is another attraction. A chance to see the Lifeboat and inshore rescue vessel and to read of the heroic rescues the Filey Lifeboatmen have been involved in over the years.

Filey’s museum explores the local history, traditions and customs and gives an interesting insight into the development of the village from a fishing and farming community into the seaside resort we have today. There are also Roman remains which provide evidence of a much earlier civilisation.

Each year there is an Edwardian Festival when the town presents a week-long look back to Filey in by-gone days. Enjoy strawberry teas, Punch and Judy shows, processions and brass bands.

Filey has its own railway station on the Hull to Scarborough line and good bus routes making public access to and from the town very easy. Other places to visit from here are Scarborough, Bridlington, Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby and many other coastal resorts, or why not head inland to Pickering, Malton, Beverley or York?
